International Theatre Festival “White Tower (Belaya Vezha)” has been conducted since 1996. The first festival gathered theaters from six countries and included theatres of the former USSR who came together— as well as acquaint the Belarusian audience with some foreign collectives.

In 2005, the 10th anniversary festival “Belaya Vezha,” gathered 40 collectives from 25 countries. During these years Brest became the location for the main theatrical forum in the country. The 8-day festival program includes a spectrum of modern dramatic art—academic drama, modern experimental drama, performances of the puppet theatres, various street performances, dance theatres, etc. An international jury formed of famous and authoritative specialists take part.

The festival has become an important educational laboratory that provides the framework of workshops, conferences and seminars, including exhibitions and presentations of scientific literature and plays. Such actions allow an exchange of professional knowledge and contribute to research activities in the theatrical sphere. Each year honored guests of the festival—theatre producers, directors of the international theatre festivals from all over the world gives new opportunities and perspectives for the theaters-participants. To round-out the experience public discussions of the performances are organized, where both theatres and theatrical critics and journalists from Belarus and other countries take part.
