| Festival Description | The International Puppet Festival the Golden Dolphin was established in 1972. It is held once in every three years, from October 1st through 6th, by Ministry of Culture, Municipality of Varna and The State Puppet Theatre Varna. Its last edition (the 13th) was held in 2005. The festival program has a competitive character. The festival is intended to assist the development of Bulgarian dramaturgy for the puppet theatre, to popularize the achievements of Bulgarian puppet art, to introduce the modern trends and the latest quests of the puppet art all over the world, to contribute to closer contacts among the puppet and theatrical specialists from the participating countries. Workshops covering a wide scope of topics related to the theory and the practice of the puppet theatre are held within the frames of the festival. Professional theatres from Bulgaria and abroad may participate in the International Puppet Festival The Golden Dolphin. The productions they submit must be staged after the festival’s last edition — 2005. The Status of the Festival is sent to all UNIMA centres all over the world. |

Practical Info:
Participant’s information:
- The candidates must submit in writing at latest by the deadline date of April 30, 2008. The theatres shall be entitled to apply for a maximun of 2 performances; one of them is a new Bulgarian play staged for a first time. Within the festival program every participant shall play 2 performances. The proceeds from these performances (if any) shall be for the festival. The proceeds from every next performance (if any) shall be for the performing theatre.
- Submissions for participation should be supported by a videocassette or CD with the entire performance recorded; information about the production team and a press dossier.
- All expenses related to the stay and the participation of the theatres, as well as the accommodations and the pocket money are borne by the organizers. Food (at no cost) will be provided to foreign and official guests. Traveling expenses are borne by visiting theatres. The participants shall be nominated by a Selection Commission.
- Notification about the selector’s decision will not be later than May 30, 2008.
The festival has a competition character in 3 sections:
- Production of a new Bulgarian puppet play or production after Bulgarian stage adaptation of literary work created after the last issue of the festival
- Puppet theatre production for children and puppet theatre production for adults.
- An international jury awards honours and prizes for dramaturgy, stage production, artistry, stage design and music.
