| Festival Description | The Youth Drama Festival hosts schools and community groups throughout Namibia who travel to Windhoek to compete in drama and scriptwriting. The plays are generally written by the acting groups and address contemporary issues such as street children, unemployment, AIDS and teenage pregnancy. These plays give insight into the problems and issues of everyday life in Namibia—issues that are not always apparent to tourists as they move on from one attraction to another. Windhoek is the capital of Namibia but has a laid-back feel due to its small population. German colonialism is reflected in much of the architecture, pubs and little shops, while the streets bustle with the bright dress of tribal people from all over Namibia. From Windhoek, it is easy to get around the country and see some of Namibia’s natural treasures—including the vast Fish River Canyon, the Namib Desert and Etosha National Park |
