| Festival Description | The Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights takes place at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon each year. Founded in 2001, the festival supports and encourages new playwrights and their work. The festival is open to applicants submitting original plays that have not been previously published. Each year six plays are selected from the entries and given staged readings followed by a discussion of the play with the Festival Panel that includes local and regional theatre professionals as well as the attending audience. |
