| Festival Description | The Swedish Biennial for Performing Arts is both a national festival and a meeting place for everyone involved in the world of Swedish performing arts. The Swedish Theatre Union arranges the festival every other year (odd numbered years) in collaboration with different regional theatres. The most recent Biennial festivals have brought together more than a thousand participants from all parts of the world of theatre in Sweden. Increasingly, guests from abroad are also taking advantage of this unique opportunity to encounter a concentrated version of Swedish performing arts. The whole of the Swedish performing arts world has a part to play in the Biennial, in performances, seminars, exhibitions, lectures, master-classes, meetings and arrangements of various kinds. The performances are chosen by a jury. While the program is linked to the performances being shown, it also reflects current debates and social analysis, dealing with issues vital to our work and presenting individuals of interest together with performing arts projects both from home and abroad. Each edition of the Festival takes place in different a city in Sweden. |
