Festival Story:
Rättviksdansen Folklore Festival has been a model for folklore festivals and is unique in comprising the whole concept of folklore besides the international programmes. The program includes a variety of peasant culture with regional dances, costumes, music, games and traditions, manners and customs—rowing of church boats, raising of the maypole, life at the forest pastures and popular beliefs.
The Festival was established in 1974 and takes place at the end of July in central Rättvik, situated in the heart of the Swedish folklore area, Dalecarlia. Groups of dancers and musicians from all over the world participate. The beautiful surroundings of Lake Siljan, together with a strong folklore tradition, the fine art of local craftsmen and its reputation as folk music centre of Sweden, make Rättvik a most interesting region in Sweden.
