Pamela Villoresi created Divinamente Roma (Festival Internazionale della Spiritualità) in Rome in 2008. The success of the festival led to the development of a like minded festival to take place in New York. The festival’s creation also involved the Italian Cultural Institute in New York, and is sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Culture. The festival’s mission and program are based on the examination of the effect of the divisiveness organized religion plays in the social and cultural arena. The organizers purposefully create an intersection of diverse spiritual paths and artistic expression as a means towards understanding commonalities and by seeking an understanding where they divide. Divinamente New York serves as a vehicle of artistic exploration that frees us from prejudices by facing them head-on.
