A religious festival in origin, the Maouloud festival lies at the heart of the Cultural Week of the Islamic Organization for Education, Science, and Culture. Among the festival's many themes and concentrations are a multicultural focus, inclusion of local artists and artwork, and support for a "culture of peace." Events run the gamut of conferences, debates, musical performances, and storytelling sessions.
