The annual National Marimba Festival in August will entice the country with the sounds of the marimba beat. The marimba beat is already fast becoming synonymous with Africa as the instrument that best captures the sound of the continent, so infused with family values, nurturing and ubuntu. The incredible talent of skilled musicians that can create new landscape of sounds with the instruments will once again be on display at the Festival that is organized by The Marimba Education Foundation in collaboration with St. Dominic’s School in Boksburg.
The National Marimba Festival has various sections, allowing the band members and individuals to show off the extraordinary instrumental skills, which attracts marimba players from all over South Africa. This year, as with the previous marimba festivals, the array of workshops offered during the festival, such as African dance workshops, djembe drumming workshops and many others also allow guests to learn how to play the marimba and participate in the musical festival. The National Marimba Festival is the only festival of its kind in South Africa.
