| Festival Description | Douz hosts the annual International Festival of the Sahara, a celebration of traditional desert culture. The rich and original cultural festival is held sometime in November or December and focuses on Bedouin life. The festivities include camel races and wrestling, horse races, dog races, poetry readings, traditional music and dancing. Traditional tableaus of desert life and customs are reenacted. There are typically discussions and conferences that round out the festival with the inclusion of international guests and subjects concerning the modern world. |
