Dubai Sound City, the brand new three-day music festival and conference that takes place in the United Arab Emirates’ most populous city from November 5th to 7th 2009, are ecstatic to announce that Mancunian musical icon Ian Brown will headline the pre-event launch party on October 1st at Dubai’s stunning Madinat Arena.
The globally renowned multi-million selling singer and erstwhile Stone Roses front man will be using the pre-UK tour opportunity to showcase material from his eagerly anticipated new album ‘My Way’, on his Middle Eastern debut as part of the festivities that will usher in Dubai Sound City’s inaugural event. One of the most forward thinking and celebrated talents of his generation Ian Brown has long had a reputation for championing change and spearheading new musical movements, making him the perfect choice to unveil Dubai Sound City to the world. Joining him at the launch will be Grammy-award winning trio Dirty Vegas, who will be performing live before jumping behind the decks for some late night DJing action plus there will be a selection of local bands and DJs playing on the night.
With more than 50 soon to be announced bands performing over 3 days across 5 venues in the city, Dubai Sound City has been organised by Dubai’s leading entertainment and nightlife company New Dawn in conjunction with the organizers of the lauded Liverpool Sound City to develop the region’s emerging, vibrant music scene, helping to dispel a few middle eastern untruths along the way.
|Festival Dates||November 5 - 7, 2009|
Listed as the New York Times’ travel choice of 2008, Dubai is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Situated on the largest natural harbour on the UAE’s Persian Gulf coast, the city has linked East and West trading routes for centuries with a large ethnically diverse population, giving it a unique socioeconomic viewpoint that has made it one of South West Asia’s most liberal and tolerant areas. Like most of its neighbours Islam is the dominant religion informing the regions laws but, unlike some of those neighbours, Islamic dress code isn’t legally compulsory and enjoying a drink in licensed premises has long been accepted. Dubai Sound City has been created to develop the lively nightlife, nurturing the city’s growing music scene and the emerging music market in South West Asia, strengthening links with Japan, Australia, South Africa, America and Europe.
