Festival Description

The Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival provides a venue to promote the art of songwriting. The participants numbering well over 200 include well known writers as well as aspiring writers and musicians. The festival has won a place in the hearts of songwriters who gather, collaborate, and create original music in an open and warm atmosphere of commradery. The aim of the songerwriters’ festival is to showcase a wide genre of music styles and to share their talents with the community at large through its educational outreach program. The writers connect with children in the schools, elderly in nursing homes, and hospital-bound patients to enhance the lives through their music. Music’s healing and uplifting message has the capacity to reach all ages and cross sections of society.

The Festival was created as a special way to honor the life of Frank Brown, a night watchman at the Flor-Bama Lounge where his interest in people and his special relationship with the artists has continued to endure beyond his life-span. Mr. Brown, greatly admired for this humor, integrity, and caring nature passed away in 1988.

Artist feature 2012:
  • EG Kight (USA)
Performance — November 16th, at Flora-Bama Dome Stage, 7:00pm (17401 Perdido Key Drive, Perdido Key, Florida)
    • EG Kight’s music features “country-flavored southern-fried blues.” “Lip Service [the album] might revive the American blues scene with every bit the staying power of Bonnie Raitt’s Nick Of Time. EG Kight is the type of artist to believe in when music with soul seems impossible to find.” —Cashbox Magazine
“It’s been Kight’s ability to inject Southern belle charm into an otherwise raging blues banter that is her unique strength…” —Blues Revue
“Her gospel, country, and blues roots coalesce in a heartfelt delivery where simple lyrics come across as profoundly etched in stone homilies delivered in warm milk.” —BluesWax
“Like a tall, cool gin and tonic on a hot afternoon… country and blues mixed just right… equally good for rocking in your car, your living room or the roadhouse.” —Boston Blues Society
