| Festival Description | The town of Porretta Terme hosts the the Porretta Soul Festival. The 2008 program takes place at the Rufus Thomas Park featuring Chaka Khan, Joe Simon. Mable John, and Sugar Pie DeSanto. CHAKA KHAN, the Queen of funk with co-founder of the phenomenal funk band funk with Rufus in the early 70s, undertook a solo career in the ‘78 earning her first of 6 Grammy Awards. Khan has collaborated with Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Michael McDonald and many others. JOE SIMON, won the Grammy Award in 1970 with Chokin’ Kind, left music in order to become Bishop of an Evangelical Church in the suburbs of Chicago. Since then he has been convinced to return to Porretta. Come to Porretta and soak in the artistry of these wonderful and legendary performers. |
