| Festival Description | Old Songs is a family-friendly festival of folk, traditional, Celtic and world music and dance, known for its relaxed atmosphere, interactive sessions and workshops, hands-on experience and participatory nature. In addition to three concerts there are 120 daytime workshops given by performers. Also featured are a juried craft show, food and instrument vendors, and a well-run children's activity area. About thirty artistic groups appear in nine performance (and participation) areas. Attendance averages about 5,000 people who take part in workshops, listen to concerts, sample from a smorgasbord of international food, or pick and sing under the trees. The three-day event takes place each June at the Altamont Fairgrounds, Altamont, New York, nestled at the foot of the historic Helderberg Escarpment, about 10 miles west of New York's capital of Albany. |
