| Festival Description | The festival features a wide range of performing songwriters and groups on multiple stages and also includes workshops on song-craft and performing, the New Song Contest, arts and crafts, kids’ music workshops, campfire jams and music late into the night. The New Song festival showcases some of the world’s best performing songwriters and rising stars in multiple genres, including folk, country, pop, blues, alternative, roots music and other traditions. Artists featured in past festivals include: Kathy Mattea, Lyle Lovett, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Shawn Colvin, Robert Earl Keen, Lucinda Williams, David Ball, Vic Chesnutt, Alison Krauss, Southern Culture on the Skids, Crash Test Dummies, Widespread Panic, Sarah Mc Lachlan, Phish, Iris Dement, Holly Cole, Tori Amos, Barenaked Ladies, Ani Di Franco, Loreena Mc Kinnet, Shawn Mullins, Sheryl Crow, Counting Crows, Ben Harper, Keb Mo, Paula Cole, David Gray, Bottle Rockets, Solas, and Ryan Welch. The award round of the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest is held in New York in October. This years first place prize in addition to performing on NPR’s internationally broadcast Mountain Stage show, the winner will have the opportunity to record an EP.
