Festival Description

This internationally acclaimed event honors Merle Watson‚ the late son and former playing partner of festival host and Blue Ridge master of guitar and vocals‚ Doc Watson. Merlefest offers a wide variety of musical offerings ranging from bluegrass‚ old-time‚ blues‚ and rockabilly to contemporary country and jazz‚ all presented on twelve different stages. A series of workshops highlight guitar‚ banjo‚ fiddle‚ blues‚ dobro‚ bass‚ and vocals. There is also a picking tent‚ a dance tent‚ and a children’s entertainment area. This festival has grown to become one of the top five acoustic events in the nation‚ and it draws as many as 45‚000 fans each year.
