Over four days, 14 companies from all over Switzerland will be presenting their latest works to Basel audiences and specialists from all over the world. The programme will be hosted by seven theatres and complemented by a rich and diverse programme of activities inviting people to make new discoveries and encounters. There will be displays by Bernese artists and video performances in the city, as well as round tables, project presentations and a photography exhibition.

As a platform for supporting Swiss companies and providing an opportunity for them to be seen more widely, the Swiss Contemporary Dance Days are aimed not just at audiences in the region, but also at Swiss and foreign professionals: journalists, festival directors and theatre managers. The artists have been selected by a specialist jury and their participation enables them to be seen by people well beyond our own borders. The 2009 festival in Ticino attracted over 150 professionals from 20 different countries and gave artists the opportunity to tour in Switzerland and abroad.

The event also fulfils an important function at a regional level. Over a four-day period, Swiss contemporary dance will be placed under the spotlight, helping enhance its popularity among audiences and the media alike.
