Festival Description

Since 2006 the spoken word festival has played an important and vital role in the cultivation of poet’s and their craft. The festival gathers established artists as well as up-and-coming talents who hone their work under the instruction and support of renowned faculty members. The festival takes place at multiple venues in Calgary and Banff, Alberta.

    • Pre-Festival Event – SLAM! Finals

      There will be a Last Chance One Round Slam! Sign-up will be at 7:00pm sharp. Come early to get one last chance to compete for a spot in Finals! Please bring 3 poems 3 minutes. No props/costumes/musical instruments/ pet tricks/nudity. Then, cheer for your favorite poetsas they go head-to-head for a position on the 2014 Calgary Slam Team!

      An open mic! This is your golden opportunity to bring your poems, take the stage and share your astonishing words with the world. It will be hosted by poet Adrienne Adams who will also present Poetry Pops!
    • Event # 10: Story SLAM!
      Sunday, April 6 - 7:00pm - $5.

      Presented with: The Calgary Story Slam
      HOST: Jilliane Yawney (Calgary)
      We want to hear yours stories – and we want to have your ears. To participate: come early, sign up, and share a 5 minute (mostly) true narrative on the theme Escape — narrow escape, escapism, and breaking free. No notes or props. Judges will be chosen from the audience and storytellers will perform by order of random draw. A prize will be awarded + glory and honor!
