| Festival Description | The festival will pivot around one major exhibition “The Grand Atelier - Pathways of Art in Europe (5th to 18th Century)” taking place from October 5, 2007 to February 3, 2008 in the Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels. This exhibition will illustrate through many remarkable and often spectacular works of art, and exhibitions important aspects of artistic circulation and the various forms it took over the centuries. Indeed, long before Europe existed as a political entity, it was an area of intense circulation of people, goods, artworks and artists. Vitruvius, Leonardo Da Vinci, Titian, Rubens and Poussin are just some of the principal players. |

Festival Story:
The Europalia autumn arts festival (established in 1969) spans the whole of Belgium, with many key events taking place in the capital city of Brussels. These include a series of concerts, film screenings, literary events, exhibitions and theatrical and dance performances. Every two years, a different country is invited to provide the theme for the festival. In 2005, Russia was the honoured guest. 2007 will be dedicated to Europe. The name Europalia comes from the contraction of Europe and Opalia, the Roman festival that celebrated a rich harvest. The festival is organised by Europalia International Foundation, a non-profit association based in Brussels.Start or join a conversation about this festival in the Forum.
