Festival Description

This year, the Festival Franco-ontarien brings you one of Quebec’s greatest, Anglophone musical groups and signers who will perform in French just for us and a group who made last year’s Festival such an exciting success! The 2009 Festival celebrates the 10th anniversary of French-speaking Ontario’s most cherished band, along with a fantastic array of concerts and a great occasion to celebrate with friends and family—and live the French-Canadian life for 4 days!

The “Franco” festival is for children and adults. Again this year, the Franco-Ontarian Festival has prepared an exciting program for youngsters. The Festival Plaza presents shows that are as fun and entertaining as they are educational! Face painting and popular plays for children will be staged by an experienced group of professionals. The Franco-Ontarian Festival offers a venue for festival-goers to sing, dance, laugh and chill out. And this year, the festival expands into the Byward Market — hosting a series of shows and street performances, spreading the Festival’s influence to the public with free open-air shows (June 11 – 14).

“The Festival Franco-ontarien has now become one of the largest cultural events in French Ontario. Its reputation extends beyond our provincial borders—which is evidence of our Francophone artists’ infectious energy. The Ontario government, through financial support from the Ministry of Culture, is a proud supporter of this flagship event“, says the Honourable Madeleine Meilleur, Ontario’s Minister of Community and Social Services and the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs.

FOF president Sébastien Lorquet recognizes the important contribution that the organization and its respected partners have made in mounting this outstanding event. Mr. Lorquet said, “The Franco-Ontarian Festival is an occasion to demonstrate our desire to strengthen the bonds between us and do what we do best, to highlight and spread the influence of our culture and our language. I thank our partners who renew their commitment year after year to our project and our community. Without them, we wouldn’t be here offering this unique festival.”
