The Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts takes place in October every year, bringing large-scale orchestral concerts and intimate recitals together in a number of the city's venues, including the Taliesin Arts Centre, Brangwyn Hall and the Grand Theatre. Founded in 1948, when local businessmen decided to bring the best of classical music to Swansea by inviting the likes of Adrian Boult, Thomas Beecham and John Barbirolli with the Hallé and the London Philharmonic Orchestras, the festival has grown over the intervening half-century to encompass two weeks every autumn.
