| Festival Description | The Aeroe International Mask Festival is a multicultural art event that features a diverse program of arts and the art of masks. The Festival honors contemporary mask art in addition to the history of mask making through exhibitions and performances—including performances in the street and in theatres. Masks have held an important place in the ancient art of expression among indigenous and contemporary cultures the world over. Dramatic actors and dancers from the region as well as from nations as far away as Tibet, Bali and Mali have taken part. Aeroe Island over the past 150 years has been a part of the rich tradition of masks. |
