For five days, Belfast City Centre comes alive to the sounds of laughter as some of the very best performers from around the world take to the streets of Belfast. For the past thirty years, cities around Europe have hosted Fools’ Festivals. Drawing on centuries of tradition which have seen strolling players and troubadors entertaining kings and commoners wherever they travelled, a Festival of Fools brings together street performers, clowns and artists to celebrate the follies and foibles of life.
The aim is to bring laughter, joy and maybe even a bit of enlightenment to passers by. Belfast’s Festival of Fools is the result of a collaboration between Belfast Community Circus School, Girovagando in Sardinia and the Goglerskolen in Aarhus, Denmark, which has been funded by the European Union through its Culture 2000 programme.
