| Festival Description | Newcastle Music Week (NMW) is a one-week music festival that hosts a range of musical events in venues in and around the city which are expected to attract in excess of 5,000. NMW has opened yet another door of opportunity to local original artists—The Newcastle Music Week Industry Showcase will pick up where the Expose Yourself Band Competition left off. Initial judging by music organizations in Sydney and Melbourne will take place after the entries have been approved. The best 32 acts will then be selected to play at the Cambridge Hotel, with the chance of progressing to the Industry Showcase Finale at the Civic Theatre Newcastle. The final four acts progressing to the Finale will be selected then judged by National Music Industry Professionals. Newcastle Music Week will still be offering a valuable prize pool, supported by local music businesses but the real gain is that even if acts don’t make the Finale, they have still had their music heard by those in the know. As past experience often shows, entering and showcasing talent may be all that is needed to get you noticed. Acts progressing to the next stage of the Showcase will also be recorded and a compilation album will be distributed to National Music Industry companies and associations. |
