| Festival Description | In 1974 the pastor Josef Herovitsch came up with the idea to organize concerts in his parish. Under the title "Lockenhauser Konzerte" the first concert took place in the entrance hall of the rectory. In his own turn Gidon Kremer came to Lockenhaus in 1976 for the first time to give "warm-up concert" for his Vienese Evening. Inspired by the atmosphere of the place, he would come back each year, bringing to Lockenhaus his Russian friends, who had also emigrated to the West. Oleg Maisenberg, Elisabeth Leonskaja, David Geringas, Andrej Gavrilov and many others have performed at “Lockenhauser Konzerten”, long before the festival was officially founded. |
