| Festival Description | Greenwich+Docklands International Festival is London’s annual festival of free outdoor arts and spectacle. It commissions and presents extraordinary events from UK and international artists. The 2009 Festival saw launch of a new thematic programme called “Out for the Elements”, providing the framework for the Festival to “tell the story” of Greenwich and East London in poetic and visually stunning ways, whilst reaching out to the widest possible audiences in the build up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The theme of “Water” ran through this year’s Festival which featured amongst other things an underwater street theatre extravaganza, a son et lumiere inspired by Handel’s Water Music and a surreal spectacle in which the performers literally walked on water. Next year’s Festival (24 June – 4 July) will focus on the theme “Earth” with programme details to be announced in early Spring 2010. |
