International Folk Meetings Freiburg was founded in 1973 and arose out of the enthusiasm of a number of people who were dedicated to the folklore and the folk art of the cantons of Switzerland and the whole world. Pierre Stempfel, former director of Freiburf Red Cross, current Vice President of the Organization Committee; Albert Bugnon, responsible for the international relations and selection of the participants; Cyrill Renz, President of International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Art (ICOFF) in Switzerland, artistic advisor of RFI. RFI (Rencontres de Folklore Internationales) is the only Swiss even of this kind, which takes place annually.
