Previous participants include Saul Williams, Sarah Jones, Stacy-ann Chin, Jessica Care Moore, Beau Sia, Sekou Sundiata, Suheir Hammad and Lemon. Each year this Spoken Word event also brings awesome young South African talent to grace their stage… alongside the established talents. |

Festival Story:
Southern African Arts Exchange annually presents the Urban Voices International Festival which is a sub-regional project aimed at facilitating cultural and educational exchanges in the world especially within the African Diaspora—warmly joined in the endeavour for a just society where arts and culture will play its true role in promoting a culture of peace and solidarity amongst peoples of the world.With groundbreaking Spoken Word artistry, extraordinary Theatre works, legendary Musical performances and Workshops, Urban Voices continues to astound audiences from around the continent. Workshops will cover poetry writing and appreciation, and the music workshops will seek to address current and pressing issues facing the music industry. Key players will share their thoughts in the challenge to realise a new deal for Africa’s rising and established musicians and performance artists.
