Druga godba was established in 1984 as an alternative to other festivals of that time which did not present the more radical and ‘different’ music practices. At the outset its programme was primarily concerned with alternative rock, rock in opposition’, contemporary jazz and experimental music, as well as the rediscovered Slovene folkloric music. Druga godba was the first festival in the former Yugoslavia to introduce reggae and other locally coloured genres of ethno music from both European and non-European cultural surroundings.
