| Festival Description | Founded in 1969, the Belgrade Music Festival (BEMUS) is the country's oldest and the most sigificant festival of classical music. Under the patronage of the City Hall of Belgrade it always takes place in the first half of October. Some of the world's most prominent artists have performed at Belgrade's concert venues: the philharmonic orchestras of Vienna, Los Angeles, Berlin, St. Petersburg and Munich, artists like Hervert von Karajan and Zubin Mehta, Mstislav Rostropovich and Misha Maysky, Sviatoslav Richter and Martha Argerich, Yehudi Menuhin and Julian Rachlin. Apart from the great names of the international music scene, Bemus has also hosted the most respected national artists (soloists and ensembles), giving the domestic art of music an equal place in the rich heritage of the world's music. In addition to the presentation of renowned artists, Bemus opens its doors to the young musicians who are starting their professional international careers. |
