The festival began in 1973 as a national jazz festival — and in 1977 the Jazz Festival went international with stage names and figures of international prestige in jazz music from all over the world. In time, Sibiu’s performances equaled artistic performances of the same kind in other cities. 2004 marked its 30th edition and the Jazz Festival of Sibiu is considered to be unique in Romania on account of its longevity, its durability and the impressive number of jazz figures who honored it by their presence.
