| Festival Description | The Castlemaine State Festival is Victoria’s premier regional arts event. Founded in 1976 by a generous bequest, it enjoys an enviable reputation as a festival that attracts audiences, sponsors and artists from around Victoria. The Festival is committed to the concept of arts excellence and innovation in a unique regional setting. The festival program encompasses visual arts, music, theatre, opera, and dance. An exciting opportunity to unleash the creativity of the Mount Alexander community and festival artists in its response to the challenges of climate change—Castlemaine State Festival is actively working with the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group to make the Castlemaine State Festival 2007 Carbon Neutral. The Carbon Neutral Castlemaine State Festival is a unique launching pad for the promotion of carbon neutrality and the engagement with the Castlemaine businesses, State Festival patrons and the wider Mount Alexander community in sustainability issues. The Festival is proudly using Green Power for its office and venues during the upcoming Festival. Greg Marginson CEO of CSF says….”we are delighted to be working with the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group to ensure that all our electricity needs for the Festival are sourced from renewable energy. Every single venue and event is included from the Town Hall to community halls and churches.” He also added that he would encourage local businesses to reduce the impact of their greenhouse gas emissions by running on Green Energy during the festival.
