The first Winter Festival in the city of Narvik dates back to 1956. In addition to music, dance and theatre artists, there were a number of regular presentations, including a giant congregation of rock bands from North Norway, jazz, daily classical music lunchtime concerts, daily workshops for children, a literature seminar, lectures, sporting events, ceremonies, church music, a carnival, markets, steam-hauled railway trips, workshops for senior citizens and folk dance nights.
