| Festival Description | The inaugural Southern Lakes Festival of Colour was held in April 2005 and met with a huge response with nearly all performances sold out and very enthusiastic feedback from audiences who came from all over New Zealand and the world. The Festival of Colour is a biennial celebration of the arts set against the spectacular backdrop of New Zealand’s Lake Wanaka in autumn. With inspiring performances of theatre, dance, music and cuisine from local, national and international acts, the Festival also showcases the work of some of New Zealand’s pre-eminent writers, artists and photographers. Wanaka is the hub of the Festival with some shows touring to Cromwell, Tarras, Hawea, Luggate, Bannockburn and Arrowtown. The themes of colour and the environment weave through the Festival, making the most of the surrounding dramatic autumnal landscape. |
