| Festival Description | The festival’s name was coined by one of the festival founders who was a decendent of former black slaves who settled in the area. The title gives tribute to the African American slaves who made their way to Canada via the underground railroad. The Underground Railroad consisted of “safe houses” that offered these individuals and families shelter and respite during their ordeal to escape slavery in the US. The festival roster features a range of genres — folk, jazz, blues, rhythm & blues, bluegrass and more. In addition to the music line, the programming also includes speakers who discuss black history and culture. |
