| Festival Description | The international folkloric dance festival Op Roakeldais takes place each year in the town of Warffum, attracting dance groups from all over the world and an audience of around 25,000. Approximately 20 groups take part each year, bringing with them the dance, music, costumes and culture of their countries. Recent years have seen representation from China, Korea, Madera, Vanuatu, South Africa, Chile, Mexico, Slovakia and Bulgaria. In 2013 there are representative groups from Belarus, Brasil, Bulgaria, Chine, Colombia, Finnland, Kenya, Peru, PuertoRico, Russia, Czech Republic and more. Highlights include the Ball of Nations and folk-dance ball held on Friday and Saturday evenings, when the foreign guests dance until dawn with members of the audience. On Saturday afternoon spectators watch the parade passing through the town, a splendid spectacle which is followed by a performance on the stage in the Op Roakeldaisbuilding. |
