| Festival Description | This pre-Lenten festival (Mexico’s Mardi Gras) begins each year nine days before Lent, and has every year since 1923. The festival includes parades, floats, costumes, music, dancing and other parties, the Carnaval virtually shuts down the city of Veracruz to celebrate and accommodate the thousands of international visitors. Centered around the town’s zócalo (plaza), Carnaval’s dance performances include salsa, cumbia, reggae, marimba, native Mexican and Danzón styles. |
