- Deirdre Kinahan’s (MOMENT, BOGBOY) bittersweet new play HALCYON DAYS features Anita Reeves and Stephen Brennan in a celebration of the human spirit and our quest for meaning in even the most seemingly hopeless circumstance. Seán (Brennan) sits alone in a nursing-home conservatory, abandoned to his memories when in storms Patricia (Reeves), a feisty woman with a zest for life and for handsome men in wheelchairs. A wary intimacy soon develops between the two, an unforeseen relationship by turns charming and combative, tender and funny. Kinahan is one of Ireland’s most celebrated contemporary playwrights with MOMENT currently enjoying an extended run on its US premiere in Chicago after a sell-out run at London’s Bush Theatre, and both Hue and Cry and BOGBOY receiving critical acclaim in New York. HALCYON DAYS is infused with Kinahan’s hallmark wry humour and humanity which critics and audiences worldwide have come to admire. Directed by David Horan (MOMENT, Macbeth for Second Age), with lighting by Kevin Smith, design by Maree Kearns and original sound by composer Trevor Knight, HALCYON DAYS is a play about facing our fears and bucking against despair. A drama that will both uplift and inspire. Halcyon Days was originally developed as a short play for The Abbey Theatre’s Fairer Sex reading series (Salad Day) and subsequently developed by Tall Tales with the support of the Stewart Parker Trust.
