| Festival Description | Its our birthday and you are all invited!! We shall be celebrating 10 years of Jazz in Doonbeg over the June Weekend with a fantastic line-up of 10 bands from Canada, Africa, England, Germany and Ireland, a jam-packed programme of 26 free performances over the weekend, and a free jazz workshop! We are delighted to play host to; Van Django from Canada, The Portobello Jazz Band from London, Congolese Niwel Tsumbu & Motema, and from Ireland; Skazz, The Darktown Strutters, Some like it Hot, The Downtown Jazz Band, Jazz Lite, Austin Durack, The Mike Varden Kate Scott Duo. With a exciting and varied programme of music from Dixie to Swing, Latin to Jazz, Rhumba to Ska, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. All of the music throughout the weekend is FREE! As part of the celebrations the Doonbeg International Jazz Festival will be holding a free Jazz Workshop on Saturdat 30th and Sunday 31st May 2009. The workshop hopes to attract beginners and young people and aims to make Jazz accessible and fun for everyone. Our workshop will allow people to explore a variety of instruments and enjoy working together on a jazz project. The workshop, run by Mike Varden of the Ennis Guitar School, and Bjorn Klein, Koln, Germany, will take place from 2:00-5:00pm on Saturday 30th May and 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday 31st May. The participants will then have a chance to perform their music to the public at the festival. |
