Nagykanizsa has been organising its spring programme series since 1993, under the title “Spring in Culture, Culture in the Spring”. The festival gives local art ensembles (the Symphonic Orchestra, the City Mixed Choir, the Oil Miners Wind Ensemble, the Kanizsa Dance Ensemble) a chance to introduce themselves. At the same time, respected theatres, nationally known ensembles, and even foreign artists have performed in the city, including, among others, the Gyôr Ballet, the National Theatre, the Hungarian State Opera, the Georgian Dance Ensemble, the Tomkins Song Ensemble, and the Auer String Quartet. The festival has been enriched each year by an increasing number of folk music and jazz bands, such as Muzsikás, the Méta Ensemble, the Zagreb Big Band, Namyslowsky and Scieransky. This cultural event has been organised under the title “Spring Music Festival” since 1998.
