| Festival Description | Since 1990 the Szombathely Spring Festival has been the city’s cultural celebration and one of Szombathely’s most significant events. Originally a music festival, it has expanded to become a diverse and distinguished festival for all the arts, one which compares favourably with the finest art festivals in Europe. The festival seeks to bring together, in the tourist off-season, a unique mixture of art and culture that will attract both local residents and visitors. By establishing and enhancing the festival’s image, the organisers hope to give Szombathely a reputation as the “festival city,” making it a centre for cultural tourism. In addition to the traditional festival programme that includes theatre performances, classical music and choir concerts, fine arts exhibitions and film shows, visitors can also enjoy dance programmes that give the city its international reputation and novel “cuisine days.” Besides professional artists from Hungary and abroad, local amateur and professional ensembles and artists are also given the chance to perform. |
