| Festival Description | The Gyôr Summer International Cultural Festival is held in the city of Gyôr, which is more than 700 years old—providing lovers of culture with a chance to come together in the natural scenery of the European baroque old town. The city comes alive as its squares and courtyards are filled with music and theatre productions, around the riverbanks and the stage by the Rába river, and at the Music Pavilion on Radó island. Programmes at the festival regularly include the best productions of the world famous Gyôr Ballet, the Gyôr Philharmonic Orchestra, opera performances by the Gyôr National Theatre, as well as the International Folk Dance, Folk Music Festival and Handicraft Fair, in which ten Hungarian and over ten foreign ensembles regularly take part. The festival is further enriched by foreign jazz ensembles, solo performances, exhibitions, and a special, genuine Baroque Wedding, which reproduces a 17th century wedding with all the pomp, costumes, and décor of the baroque era. The International Puppet Show and Street Theatre provides fun for children and families. And something really attractive for everyone—the weekend open air programmes are free for all visitors to Gyôr Summer. |
