Howlin' Hobbit,
Thanks so much for adding your point of view.
Have you had a chance to read Lessig's "Remix". He takes your points and expands them in all sorts of interesting directions.
The book discussed here merely presents the other side of the issue; and, a side that often gets lost in the discussion.
No doubt the conversation gets more interesting when it's artists that are debating what's right for their own works.
I wonder what you think of the recent EU directive (see next blog post) as well as why so many artists are pushing for these kind of protections.
all best to you!

Copyright laws have gone way beyond the pale. If you don't want people to contemptuously toss aside questions of copyright, it's time to get it back closer to the intent of the Constitution's framers.

Currently it's set up for the benefit of mega-corporations, and screw the "content creator," a phrase that in and of itself causes me to throw up in my mouth a little.

It's a whole new world out here. Adjust or die. Not a huge whaling industry in the US right now, is there? Not a whole lot of calls for buggy whips either. Telephone installers? Hmmm...

Frankly, with the copyright laws killing the public commons, writing an article like this on a place that claims it's "where culture speaks" is a bit disingenuous at best.

Culture has a hard time speaking, proudly or not, when it's being choked to death.
