Arts Presenters: Frank London

Frank LondonTrumpeter/composer Frank London is a founding member of the Klezmatics, who have been expanding musical horizons for twenty years. He has performed with John Zorn, LL Cool J, David Byrne and many others.

In this podcast he talks about the parallel evolution of the Klezmatics and world music, what accounts for the longevity of the Klezmatics, and why people create art.

This interview is part of an ongoing series with the Association of Performing Arts Presenters.

Her adaptation of Allende’s The House of the Spirits premiered February 2009 at Repertorio EspaƱol in NY, and her play Instructions for Breathing will premiere at Passage Theatre in NJ. She is an alumna playwright of New Dramatists, founder of NoPassport, associate editor of Contemporary Theatre Review (Routledge/UK), and contributing editor of TheatreForum.

NoPassport Interview: Randy Gener

Randy GenerRandy Gener is a Filipino American working in the fields of theatre, journalism, writing, photography and installation art. He is the award-winning author of the plays Love Seats for Virginia Woolf and What Remains of a Rembrandt Torn into Four Pieces; the photographer of the floral installation-art piece In the Garden of One World (a collaboration with designer and painter Nic Ularu); and is the senior editor of American Theatre magazine. He was recently named the winner of the Nathan Award for dramatic criticism in the 2007-08 theater year.

He is responsible for developing and reporting theater-related multimedia features, including audio slide shows, photo essays and audio interviews. His publication history includes theater criticism for Time Out New York, Chicago Reader and Windy City Times, in addition to features for The New York Times. He was a 2008 fellow for the USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism program.

NoPassport Interview: Lanna Joffrey and Kristoffer Diaz

Lanna JoffreyLanna Joffrey is a writer/performer who has received a NY Fringe Festival Performance Award and NY Theatre Innovative Nomination for her documentary play, Valiant. She has also received an IRNE Award for best solo performance in Heather Raffo’s Nine Parts of Desire, and a Denver Post Ovation Award for Jason Grote’s 1001. She will be performing in Homeward Bound in April.

Kristoffer DiazKristoffer Diaz is a playwright and educator who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He is one of the writers for this year’s anthology play at the Humana Festival, and 2009-10 recipient of the Jerome Fellowship. His play Welcome to Arroyo’s will be published in late 2009 as part of the first critical anthology of hip-hop theater.
