Festival Year in Review

Wednesday, January 1st, 2014

Goals for 2014: Go Create; Capture Inspiration; Always Have Fun!

What better to spark your creativity, inspiration, and fun than celebrating the amazing global festival scene of last year.

We’ve chosen some of the best photos from our festival producers and promoters, artists and bands, and audiences and fans in 156 countries, who have been posting, using, and connecting on KadmusArts.com.

This year’s Festival in Review soundtrack comes from one of the most popular bands based in South Africa, Freshlyground. The band’s artists come from South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. What better way to start the New Year than with the toast, “Be My Love!” from the opening of their get-up-and-dance track, “Fire is Low.”

We know 2014 will bring changes to our lives and to our work. After all, in 2013, KadmusArts was acquired by a Seattle based company, Festival Transaction Services. In 2014, we’ll be rolling out a new event platform to help festivals and fairs broaden and deepen their reach to audiences and provide events with the leading ticket and sponsorship processing, payment and promotion service. Thanks to FTS, going to festivals and fairs is about to get a whole lot easier, with more rewards and more fun.

From all of us at KadmusArts and our new colleagues’ team at FTS,

Happy New Year!

We wish that everyday of 2014 be a festival for you!

FTS + Hidalgo BorderFest

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

Festival Transaction Services, Inc. (FTS) has announced that it has signed a two-year agreement to implement the FTS cash management services program for BorderFest, in Hidalgo, Texas. BorderFest, celebrating its 37th year in 2013, attracted more than 85,000 visitors in 2012, and increased attendance to 91,117 in 2013.

Hidalgo City Manager and BorderFest CEO Joe Vera said, “We tested the FTS processing service at our month-long Festival of Lights in December. Their devices performed well, and we expanded their service for BorderFest to include entry box office, food and beverage tickets and our souvenir merchandise. Next year, we look forward to adding their Festivals.com prepaid Visa® cards-as-tickets services.”

Charles Brown, CEO of FTS, said, “We are honored to have BorderFest as a partner in the FTS program. Under Joe Vera’s leadership, BorderFest is one of the best run and most respected events in the festivals and events business. They excel at delivering value to their sponsors as well as their visitors and we are looking forward to helping them offer new sponsor opportunities in 2014 through our prepaid Visa cards-as-tickets. As Past Chairman of the IFEA Foundation Board [International Festivals & Events Association] and Immediate Past President of the Texas Association of Fairs and Events [TAFE], Joe’s acceptance of FTS is particularly significant for our service and technology.”

Kay Wolf, assistant city manager, who also manages the city’s December Festival of Lights event, said, “The larger crowds of BorderFest were no problem for the FTS devices and service. The addition of cell phone signal boosters that FTS supplied made a huge difference.”

Brown added, “FTS deployed 32 wireless transaction devices at 8 box office, food coupon and merchandise sales locations on the BorderFest site. BorderFest volunteers had no problem using the devices, and FTS processed all major credit and debit cards for event visitors’ purchases.”

FTS has partnerships both with Visa and with BankAmerica Merchant Services, which have allowed FTS to use its technology leadership to provide unique services and reporting to event organizers and managers. Brown said, “FTS technology allows each transaction device to be identified by location and type of sale, providing new and valuable information to FTS fair and festival customers. All event and vendor sales transactions can be viewed online within the events private account providing new visibility for our customer’s sales results.”

Sweet (Sounds) All Around

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

You know spring has really arrived when it’s time to put manure down on the fields. It is not so much irony as a perfect juxtaposition that, as we continue to expand KadmusArts’ technology, when the wind blows in the right direction our studio is filled with the sweet smell of manure from the surrounding fields. Aren’t we all searching for the perfect balance between high-tech and nature?

Our newest tech tool on the site is podcasting. Our interviews are also available on iTunes if you want the option to download any or all of them — for free.

There is a nice connection between our first two interviews: both Brian Pulver and WÅ‚odek Staniewski have been building communities. Brian has one of those ideas which is such a natural extension of the festival spirit that we hope it will be repeated and expanded for many more festivals around the globe. WÅ‚odek’s work has always sprung from a determined integration into a community’s daily life, as well as its art. Check out his book (with Alison Hodge), Hidden Territories for a fascinating account of how this process works.

Building our community is an essential part of the interviews. If you have anyone you think we should interview – let us know. If you would like to send in your own interview for posting, send us the information and we will get back to you.

If you want to continue the “conversation” from the interviews, use our Forum to give feedback and exchange ideas. We’ll be sure to let our interviewees know about any posts so as to invite a direct response to you.

The interviews are another aspect of KadmusArts’ festival possibilities: to build, sustain, and promote the Festival community.

Nice to feel connected to so many — though, aren’t you glad you can’t smell us right now?

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

You’ve seen the pictures, read the information, now get ready to listen: a KadmusArts podcast!

The next post contains Ana Maria’s interview with Brian Pulver, who has one of the coolest ideas for connecting a festival’s audience to the community. How cool is it? Well, listen and then you may just do what Ana Maria has done — she’s on her way to New Orleans.
